Randy Poffo, better known as "Macho Man" Randy Savage, tragically died behind the wheel of his car today at 58 years of age. Macho Man will be missed.

"Ooh, yeah! Dig it!" That was the popular 1980s catch phrase of one of the all-time greats in Professional Wrestling, Macho Man Randy Savage (Randy Poffo).

World Wrestling Entertainment released an official statement on Friday afternoon:"WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Poffo, a.k.a. Randy 'Macho Man' Savage."

And the following was posted on TNAWrestling.com: "TNA joins the entire wrestling world in mourning the passing of the legendary 'Macho Man' Randy Savage.... TNA hopes all of our fans remember Randy Savage’s amazing life and career, and how he helped shape the sport as we know it today."

Randy Savage Dies

Tragically, as first reported by TMZ, the 58 year old Poffo reportedly suffered a heart-attack while driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in Tampa, Fla., and careened across lanes of oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with a tree. Savage succumbed to his injuries later at a local hospital.

The WWE favorite from Ohio burst onto the scene in 1985 and quickly become one of the top "baby-faces" for then WWF with his flamboyant outfits and promos. Hopefully WWE will decide to include Poffo ('Macho Man' Randy Savage) in the WWE Hall of Fame Class for 2012.

Wrestling Career

His marriage to Elizabeth Hulette, Ms. Elizabeth to fans, was one of the first high-profile wrestler/valet relationships. They divorced in 1992 and Poffo remarried last year to Lynn, who was riding in the passenger seat during today's crash and escaped with only minor injuries.

Both Poffo and his wife were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and Tampa police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

In addition to wrestling all the top names such as Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Undertaker and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Savage was also a spokesman in the 1990s for Slim Jim Beef Jerky and played a wrestler in the 2002 hit Spider Man movie.

Savage last appeared in a wrestling ring for Total Non Stop Action Wrestling in December 2004.

Legend of Wrestling

Savage is a part of the roster in THQ’s WWE video game WWE All-Stars, released on March 29, 2011 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2 and PSP. This marks the first appearance by Savage in a video game since 2004's Showdown: Legends of Wrestling and his first appearance in a WWE game since the Game Gear version of 1994's WWF RAW.

Savage will be missed by his many fans.
